Library Legislative Day

Get Involved.

Join us on Wednesday, March 3, 2010 for WLA’s annual Library Legislative Day in Olympia. This is a great opportunity to network with library supporters from around the state and meet with State Legislators and their staff to discuss the value of libraries and the impact laws have on them.

It’s easy!

The Washington Library Association (WLA) has made it easy for you to participate:

  • A continental breakfast will be provided to you during the welcome gathering at United Churches in Olympia on the morning of March 3.
  • Attendees will be briefed on critical issues facing libraries and given all the tools they need to be effective in conveying pertinent messages to Legislators during each visit.

Prepare.

Join us at the Timberland Regional Library Service Center on Tuesday, March 2 from 5:30-6:30pm (the evening before L ibrary Legislative Day) for an educational workshop “Effective Legislative Advocacy: Making Sure What They Heard Is What You Said.”  WLA’s long-time legislative liaison Steve Duncan will provide practical tips from the trenches about getting the library supporters’ messages heard in Olympia. Attendees will learn about the often incomprehensible legislative process, delve into the mind of the legislator, learn how to communicate with them effectively and come away understanding what Steve refers to as the counterintuitive nature of lobbying. Your participation on Wednesday, March 3 will help raise awareness about library services and ultimately enhance our ability to establish and sustain long-term relationships with key elected officials.
