Celebrate DifferencesThe 1998 Conference Committee invites you to visit Wenatchee for the annual WLA Conference April 15-18, 1998. We will be meeting in the newly remodeled Wenatchee Convention Center for packed days of learning, fun and networking.
| NOTE: As of March 17, the Wenatchee Center Hotel (the "conference" hotel) is fully booked for Wednesday and Thursday nights. If you have not already made a reservation, you will need to find another hotel. Here are some other Wenatchee Hotels, including information on the distance from the Convention Center. |
Featuring:
Andrew, Tim, and Mickey will provide the latest information, offer practical strategies for dealing with telecommunication providers, and answer questions about the program.
Andrew and Tim will be available to answer additional questions after the program from 3:30-4:30 p.m. at Washington State Library's booth in the exhibits area.
The program is sponsored by Washington State Library. For further information contact Jeanne Crisp or Vicki Terbovich at the State Library.
After a day of pre-conference join your colleagues for an evening of Pizza 'n Pipes at the North Central Washington Museum. Brad Miller brings to life the old Liberty Theater pipe organ for old favorite songs and as "soundtrack" for some great silent movies.

Next join us in celebrating our vendors in the exhibit hall. The exhibits will be open from 9:30 a.m. on Thursday through 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Glance around the exhibit hall and you will see umbrellas donated by a generous vendor. These will be given away at our tea party Friday afternoon as we close the exhibits.
Choose from a wide variety of programs during the day. For example you can find out how to help YA's with homework; design a website; facilitate the ESL patron; and do not miss the disabled patron who sues the library!
Lunch on Thursday will be the annual business meeting of the association. This is a must attend so you know what the association is up to. This meal is also included in your registration fee.
After a day full of programs join us for a very ethnic dinner. The South of the Border Buffet will be great and Wenatchee's famous Marachi Band will perform.
End the day by joining the Society Gaius Julius Washingtonius Solinus for some outrageous fun.
Friday is another full day starting off with a breakfast of your choice. You can join CAYAS to hear author Gary Soto, or visit the ALA/PNLA crowd, or many of the interest groups will be having their annual business meetings.
Programs on Friday include unions in Washington libraries; serving older adults; doing performance appraisals; small press books and the netmaster program at the King Co. Library System among many others.
Join us in celebrating the wonderful achievements of our members, trustees and friends at our annual awards luncheon. A time not to be missed.
The day would not be complete without our annual banquet which will celebrate the human spirit with Dan Miller, former local principal. He will share his amazing story of dealing with his polio and achieving his dreams. He is highly entertaining and will no doubt have you in stitches as he shares his life with you.| Friday Night Banquet: Dan Miller--Living, Laughing & Loving Life!! Refreshing speaker who entertains, inspires and uplifts his audience. An inspiring message of taking risks and overcoming obstacles to succeed in life. | ![]() |
Wind down the day by joining our President for a drink in her suite and celebrate the close of the conference for another year.
But wait, Saturday is a time for WLFTA to celebrate Friends as Partners with their breakfast program and annual business meeting. Should be a great time to see what the Friends and Trustees are doing.
If you are thinking of coming early or staying late there is much to do in the beautiful Wenatchee Valley. Since we met in Wenatchee in 1988 several things have changed.
Bring your rollerblades, bike or just a good pair of walking shoes to cruise the beautiful loop trail . Join the trail behind the Convention Center and travel in either direction as much of the 10 mile trail along the river as you wish.
If shopping is more your speed, visit the many wonderful shops within walking distance of the Center. More adventurous? then hop on the Link Bus (it's free) and visit one of the Malls, Leavenworth or even Lake Chelan. The Bus stops hourly outside the Center entrance. Oh yes and the Sunday following our Conference is the annual Ridge to River Race.
Look for a mailing coming your way in late January. We cannot promise sunshine, but it is a good possibility so join us in Wenatchee to Celebrate the Differences.
