Publications Guidelines [1997]
The Washington Library Association supports three types of publications: periodicals, an Internet web site, and general informational materials produced for specific purposes.
PERIODICAL PUBLICATIONS

- 1. For example: [The WLA Link] will carry highlights of each WLA Executive Board meeting, announcements of workshops, news from interest groups, personnel and institutional news, a short calendar of events, and other items of interest to the membership.
- 2. For example: The inclusion of any information does not necessarily express the opinion of, or imply an endorsement from, the Editor or WLA.
General guidelines
- Because publications carrying the Washington Library Association's name and logo represent the association, editors are expected to maintain a high standard of writing quality and editing.
- Individual publications may adopt guidelines, manuals, or other written material to assist with issues specific to that publication. A copy of all such material, and all updates, must be forwarded to the Coordinator of Communications and Association Coordinator.
- Subscription lists are maintained and mailing labels produced by the Association Coordinator.
- The Association Coordinator reproduces and mails interest group newsletters, and may establish and enforce deadlines for receipt of "camera ready" copy.
INTERNET WEB SITE
- WLA Online
- WLA Online is governed by the World Wide Web Site and Home Page Guidelines.
GENERAL INFORMATIONAL MATERIALS

- Etc.
All general informational materials must include:

Specific requirements for fact sheets and issue briefs
Definitions
- Fact sheets, created by the PR Committee, contain general Association or library-related information on one subject, are factual, and do not state a position. They are available for general distribution.
- Issue briefs are summaries of library issues, often stating the Association position, and usually relate to specific legislation or controversial subjects. They are distributed only at the direction of the Association's legislative representative.
Format
- All fact sheets and issue briefs are to have the same format and typography as established by the Public Relations Committee.
- The header will state the type of publication (Fact Sheet or Issue Brief), title, and include the Association logo; the footer will have the Association name, address, phone and fax numbers, and e-mail address.
- The length is to be one side of one page.
- Fact sheets will be printed on gray paper and issue briefs on ivory paper.
